“I want to be happier”
“I want to be happier”. It’s a notion that often comes up for many people, especially at this time of year, with New Year’s resolutions flying around. Who doesn’t want to be happier?
But how do you set about “being happier”, especially if you are in a season of life that just…isn’t. For some, the goal of being happier seems so far out of reach that it winds up being overwhelming. Where do you even start?
There are some things you can do. Little things that don’t cost a lot, in time or money. I find it easiest to start small, where you are, right now. These simple ideas aren’t life changing in and of themselves. They aren’t a permanent cure-all, or a secret fix to all of life’s problems.
But they are a good first step to identify the things around you that already make you happy. Make a list that you can post on the fridge, the bathroom mirror, on your bedside table, in your journal. Then when you need a “Little Pocket of Bliss” pull out the list and remind yourself of the little things that make you happy.
Turn this into a daily habit, and you’ll find your list will grow. And soon, you just might notice how easy it is to make your own happy whenever you need it.
And isn’t that the goal in the first place? To make your own happiness?
