Make Your Own Pizzas

This super easy recipe for Make Your Own Pizzas is a hit with kids and adults alike!  Works for cozy family game night at home, or feeding a crowd watching the football game.  Try it for birthday parties, family get-togethers, or just those busy weeknights when you are on the go.

While you could make your own pizza dough to have a completely “made from scratch” recipe, using naan break is a quick and easy alternative.  We keep packages of naan in the freezer for make your own pizzas on those busy weeknights when we have all kinds of homework and activities.

The key to this crowd pleaser is the ingredients.  My boys like simple, traditional pepperoni and mozzarella cheese, but for more grown up tastes, you can offer a variety of pizza topping combinations.  You can use plain naan, or gourmet flavours like caramelized onion or garlic.  Switch up the usual pizza sauce with barbecue sauce, alfredo or even a simple olive oil and garlic base.

Try different cheeses like traditional mozzarella, or mixing flavours like monterey jack, provolone, cheddar or parmesan.  Offer a variety of meats like pepperoni, bacon, chicken, sausage or ground beef.  Load up on the veggies to make a healthy, filling meal!

If you’re feeding a crowd, try setting up an assembly line of fixings, so everyone can make their own pizza from start to finish, ready to go in the oven!

Favourite Pizza Topping Combinations

Cheese or Classic Pepperoni – everyones favourite, especially kids

Canadian – ode to my country…pepperoni, bacon and mushrooms

BBQ Chicken – start with bbq sauce base, mozzarella, shredded chicken, red onion, and a drizzle of ranch

Meat-a-tarian – pepperoni, ham, bacon, sausage, ground beef

Veggie – load up on tomatoes, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, green olives

Margherita – roma tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil

Spicy – try a jalapeno monterey jack cheese, spicy italian sausage, banana pepper

Greek – spinach, roasted red peppers, black olives and feta cheese

Thai – peanut sauce, mozzarella, chicken, grated carrot, bean sprouts, green onion, drizzle of sriracha sauce

Gourmet– pears, gorgonzola cheese, walnuts and arugula, with a drizzle of balsamic glaze

Kids In The Kitchen

This is a great recipe for kids to help in the kitchen! Kids can help with grating the cheese, spreading sauce (we love the squeeze bottle pizza sauce), and picking out their own toppings.  You can make these as an afternoon snack that older kids can manage on their own, and pack away the leftovers for school lunch the next day.

Tip:  Cover baking sheets with parchment or aluminum foil for easy clean up!
